Homemade Goodness
When June was about to eat solid food, that is when it decided I wanted to make the food myself. I bought a couple books, visited a few websites and asked some other mothers if it was even worth the trouble. So far I would have to say that I love it! At first it was kind of boring.... apples, pears, bananas, squash, nothing too interesting. Then, once she reached 7 months, I was able to make all kind of combinations.... peaches+bananas, pumpkin+blueberry, sweet potato+pears, carrots+squash, apples+peas. The world was my oyster, I could make any combinations out of any fruits and veggies. She loves them all! I just make a whole big batch of everything, make one big mess, one full sink of dishes, and it lasts 2 weeks. I steam, bake, roast, mash, and puree. I can add spices too! We save money and I know exactly what is going into her mouth.
This week I plan on adding in protein... which means.... meat. I am not looking forward to mashing and pureeing ground turkey, ground beef, chicken, and any other meats that I can think of. It's pretty creepy to me, but I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst... gross:(
I know what many of you might be thinking,"Sure she can do it now, she only has one baby, she hasn't even gotten to the hard part yet, wait till she has 2 more kids and then let's see her try and make homemade baby food". I really hope that I can continue once number 2 and 3 come along. It may be difficult, but it's something i am determined about and I hope to be able to do it. The pictures are the finished product. After I'm done steaming and mashing/pureeing, I pour the mash into a cube tray(kind of like a ice cube tray, but made specifically for homemade baby food) and I pop it in the freezer!
